The Missing of Clairdelune - a book review.

I was excited to read the next book in the Mirror Visitor series and it was perfect that it was yellow for my Sept 2023 reads. Here’s my thoughts on this read!

“The first time I saw you, I formed a very poor opinion of you. I thought you had no common sense and no character, and wouldn’t make it to the marriage. That will forever remain the biggest mistake of my life.”

Goodreads Summary

When our heroine Ophelia is promoted to Vice-storyteller by Farouk, the ancestral Spirit of Pole, she finds herself unexpectedly thrust into the public spotlight and her special gift is revealed to all. Ophelia knows how to read the secret history of objects and there could be no greater threat to the nefarious denizens of her icy adopted home than this. Beneath the golden rafters of Pole’s capitol, Citaceleste, she discovers that the only person she may be able to trust is Thorn, her enigmatic fiancé. As one after another influential courtier disappears, Ophelia again finds herself unintentionally implicated in an investigation that will lead her to see beyond Pole’s many illusions to the heart of the formidable truth.

“Oh, and by the way, I love you.”

Evaluation

This was the 2nd book in the series. With it we got even more details about this fantasy world that I was craving. I enjoyed the interesting concept of God and his “children” in this story. We still are subjected to the relationship troubles and distance between Ophelia and Thorn. I was frustrated by this. Ophelia’s mother was also a frustrating element and the Anima’s family visit to The Pole was stressful to think about. I loved Ophelia’s character development in this book as she came into her own and showed immense courage. Readers were left on a cliffhanger and with Ophelia and Thorn still not working together, making me want to read the next one and resolve things.

“It’s your heart that he really needs, not your hands.”

My 5 Star Rating in the YA Fantasy Genre: **** (4/5)

Recommendation

I think this book will be a great read for those who enjoy fantasy worlds, female MCs overcoming obstacles, and plot twists. This book also explores concepts of God. Goodreads recommends this book to readers who also enjoyed other foreign language books, Let the Game Begin by Shell, and Sorcery of Thorns by Rogerson.

“He is scared of becoming what God expects of him, and he is also scared of never becoming it.”

I hope this review of The Missing of Clairdelune by Christelle Dabos was an enjoyable read. Let me know your thoughts and any further recommendations you’d have for me. Until next time…happy reading!
